Try Something Different With Your Gift Wrap
Remember that the gift wrap is also an extension of the gift and of your feelings.
People spend a lot of time making of buying that very special gift and then forget about the wrapping. The wrapping on a gift also gives that person a little piece of you – that’s what every gift that leaves your hands really is. It’s about fitting the gift your giving and also the person you’re giving it to.
Use these nifty ideas to add another layer of holiday joy.
- Reflections of what’s inside: Wrap a colander and hot pads in a big, white cotton tea towel tied with red and green ribbon. Give a gift of table linens (hat you have made) for various holidays, all wrapped in a Christmas tablecloth. If you’re wrapping a drill, add some drill bits in among the ribbons. Wrap a teapot and tea in a pretty apron and put a big bow on top. For a gift of books tie a beaded bookmark that you have made into the bow.
- Use your stamps Use rubber stamps to create your own holiday theme on plain paper. Look for fish, pine trees and cabins for a northwestern feel. For children’s gifts use teddy bears, dragons, fairy princess or any of the kid’s stamps that is available. Then tie your packages with brown twine and label them with plain tags.
- Country-style gift wrapping. During the year I hit yard sales and buy macramé yarn in holiday colors. The no-frills look of the yarn complements plain brown or colored paper. Just tie it in a knot and fray the edges for a simple, attractive package.
- Picture perfect: Create a new tradition by identifying gift recipients with their photo instead of with a tag. This is really fun on otherwise plain packages. Use tiny frames – you can make them out of cardboard or you can get them a craft stores. Fill the frames with photos of your friends and family.

These are just a few ways to brighten up
your packages. Use your imagination and you can come up with many different ideas.
