Scented Candles Add A Glorious Dimension To Your Candle Making

When scented candles burn, the heated wax releases its fragrance into the air to scent the entire room. The big variety of candle scents available today is just remarkable. Your only problem is going to be which one do you want.

You can make your scented candles from your favorite flower scents like lavender, gardenia, jasmine or romantic rose. Or how about something from the kitchen like cider, cinnamon, vanila, cotton candy or peppermint. You can choose from spa luxury, fresh & floral, in the orchard, earth inspired, life & love and holiday collections. For scented candles the choice is phenomenal!

Choose scents to complement the colors and types of candles. For example, rose-scented candles decorated with dried red rose petals give a romatic effect. Whereas, dark brown candles with cinnamon or chocolate scent will give a homey feeling.

Scents come in various forms and need to be oil based so that they will dissolve in wax. Never use alcohol based perfumes.

Add the drops of scent to your wax after it has reached the correct temperature and just before you make the candle. This minimizes the chance of the scent being spoiled or vaporized by the heat.

Fragrance oils. These scents are specially made for candle making. They are usually synthetic, combine very well with the wax and do not affect the burning properties of candles.

Scented wax beads. You can purchase scented wax beads to add to your melted wax. Follow the instructions on the packet to obtain the correct quantities. I personally like to you use the fragrance oils.

Herbs, spices & flowers. You can use natural materials in fresh or dried form to scent your wax. I expecially like to use lavender flowers, rose petals, mint leaves or cloves. Just add around a handful of fresh material (or one tablespoone of dried) to 1 lb of melted wax in your pot. Let it infuse in a pan of simmering water for around 30 minutes. Keep the temperature of the wax around 170 degrees. Then strain the wax through gauze or a sieve. You can leave the material in the wax for a different effect.
