Here Are A Few Summer Crafts For Kids
There are many summer crafts for kids to do. They have those long lazy days of summer and they need something to keep them busy.
These free crafts for kids includes making a marble flowerpot and then they can plant some seeds in it and watch them grow. All you will need is and old or new clay flowerpot, some joint compound and marbles. Take the flowerpot and cover it with joint compound (you can get this at any hardware or paint store). Stick the marbles all over the joint compound. They can make a pattern with the marble colors or any kind of design that they would like. I have seen them done in red, white and blue and they look fantastic. If they would like to make the pot with colored glass instead of marbles then have them wear gloves in case there are any sharp edges.. You can get colored glass at any craft store.
Allow the compound to dry and then add dirt and seeds or a plant. This makes a great gift for Mom or Grandma. A great summer craft for kids is making stepping stones. This is pretty messy but quite fun and it cleans up easy. Make a form out of cardboard and fill it with premix concrete that you have mixed up. They can decorate them with marbles or the broken glass or else they can just make a design with a stick and then sign it. You can use just about anything for a form. The clear plastic plant trays work great. You can also just make a form in the dirt and then it is already in place when it is done. Just be sure to let them dry for a few days before you use them.
Another great summer crafts for kids is to make their own terrarium planters. All you need are 2 clear plastic cups (that you can get at the grocery store) potting soil, tape and seeds. Fill one plastic cup about ¾ full with potting soil. Sprinkle the seeds on top of the soil and water lightly. Tape the other cup on top so that the mouths of the cup touch. Place in moderate sunlight and watch your garden grow. Make an easy birdbath. Use 2 different size terra cotta pots (a 12” and 16”) and drip saucer. Let the kids paint the pots with an outdoor acrylic paint available at craft stores. They can either paint them a solid color or paint designs on them. Overturn the large pot and then the small pot. Put the drip saucer on top of the planters and fill with water. The birds will love you!
