Make Your Own Gel Packs

Gel packs or cold therapy is helpful for reducing swelling. I remember when I have hurt myself and the Dr. said to apply a cold pack. Well now I have them handy all the time

You can make your own cold packs that you can use in an emergency. They are very easy to make and they work really well. Just throw them in the freezer and when you need one they are ready

Supplies you need for the gel pack

  • 3 parts water
  • 1 part rubbing alcohol
  • snap lock bags or heat sealed bags
  • blue food coloring

Instructions

Pour the water and alcohol and the blue food coloring into a bag and seal. The reason you use blue food coloring is so that you can avoid accidental consumption. A heat sealer would complete this project but you can make them with plastic sealable bags. I use my Food saver. To use it just put the ingredients in the bag and then freeze and seal for moist foods. If you use the snap lock bags be sure to double bag it.

It works because alcohol will not freeze so you end up with a slush frozen get pack.

Use them in your coolers for your food. They work great.
