Make You Own Heat Packs And Save Money
Heat packs are very easy to make. Heat therapy helps to relieve pain, including arthritis pain. There have been many times that I have needed a heat pack.
When ever I work in the garden in the spring and I am out of condition I get sore muscles. Heat therapy helps an awful lot. I just grab a pack and throw it in the microwave for about 1 to 3 minutes (depending on the size) and it is ready.Supplies you need
- 1 sock (this is where the odd sock works great.
- 2 cups, wheat, rice, barley or bird seed
- If you don’t want to sew the opening of the sock you will need rubber bands.
InstructionsTake your sock and fill it with whatever seeds that you like. I prefer barley but I don’t know why. Leave enough room to either sew the top or put a rubber band around the top. You could leave enough room and make a knot in the top. The problem with rubber bands is that when they get a little old they have a tendency to break. If the rubber band breaks then you will have seeds all over the floor. They are a mess to clean up. Heat in the microwave for 1 ½ minutes on high. I also make them with flannel material. I just cut whatever size heat pad I want and sew 3 sides. Put in the barley and sew the top. I like some bigger ones to use on my back. If you really want something nice put in a few drops of oils or spices. Just mix the oil or spices with whatever you are putting inside. Then when you heat them up they give off an aroma and smell wonderful. These heat pads also work great for putting in your pets bead under their blanket. It makes a nice warm bed for them. You can also put them in the freezer and make a cold pack. A cautionary note about heating pads catching fire from smoldering on the inside. This may occur when the water content of the filling is dried out and burned from many re-heatings. Two possible solutions is to place a cup of water in the microwave when heating the pads, to keep the interior moist or else spritz them with water before you heat them.. Another solution would simply be to replace the filling after so many heatings. These also make great gifts for anybody on your list that loves gardening or work outs. They need them for their sore muscles.
